Milwaukee Elder Abuse Lawyer Shares Shocking Story
Three indicted for abuse at Wisconsin-owned nursing home

One would hope that those charged with caring for residents in nursing homes and retirement centers would value safety, honesty and a good work ethic. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case.
A Wisconsin-owned nursing home in the Athens, Georgia, area is a good example. Three employees, including a former administrator, were indicted by a grand jury recently on various charges relating to nursing home abuse and theft.
One nursing home aide is accused of assaulting an elderly resident. She apparently punched an 82-year-old woman because she took some butter from a food cart in a dining hall. In the indictment, the 52-year-old woman is charged with two counts of simple battery, as well as abuse of an elderly person.
According to OnlineAthens, the woman nearly faced a homicide charge. The elderly resident, who later died, was apparently treated for a knot on the back of her head. Police believe that’s where the woman hit the food cart and the floor. However, a medical examiner later decided it did not play a part in the woman’s death.
Another employee, the 47-year-old administrator of the retirement center, allegedly cashed checks that were part of a $10,000 payment that did not belong to her. They were apparently to be used as payment from the son of an Alzheimer’s patient. Instead, the woman cashed several of the checks for her own use. She also allegedly sold a lift chair that did not belong to her and pocketed the money.
Still another worker is accused of theft after police suspected she stole more than 100 Xanax pills of a patient who died.
That’s too many incidents of abuse and wrongdoing at one facility. When people decide to move a family member into a nursing home, they should be able to expect the best care possible.
