Recall could be widened over malfunctioning brake lights
On behalf of Milwaukee personal injury attorney Ric Domnitz of Domnitz & Domnitz, S.C. posted in Car Accidents on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.
Driving for long stretches along the interstate can have a way of lulling a driver into a sort of trance. It can be disarming when a driver is cruising along I-94 or I-43 in Wisconsin when suddenly brake lights illuminate ahead of the driver as traffic comes to a standstill. Imagine the safety risk if those brake lights did not exist, and a diver thereby had no warning of slowing traffic. There would very often be insufficient time to stop before a catastrophic impact.
Accordingly, auto manufacturers install vehicles with brake lights. However, it appears that many vehicles manufactured by General Motors are having malfunctioning brake lights that either do not illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed, or the lights simply illuminate for no reason. This is a serious safety concern. Accordingly, GM recalled 8,000 vehicles in 2009, but federal investigators may add an additional 1 million vehicles to this recall for similar brake light defects and malfunctioning.
The models that have reported similar problems, and may be recalled include:
- 2004-2011 Chevrolet Malibu
- 2007-2099 Saturn Aura
Auto defects can cause serious car accidents, which house the potential to yield absolutely devastating injuries and huge disruptions to victims’ lives. When this happens, an auto manufacturer or designer could be held financially liable for the damages caused by the faulty or defective vehicle. In accidents of this nature in Wisconsin, preserving evidence following a car accident is imperative. An attorney can be critical in assisting a victim in documenting the defect and subsequent damage in an effort to pursue financial recovery.
