Wisconsin residents who have relatives in nursing homes have probably placed them there with some trepidation. It’s hard knowing that you can’t be there for your loved one’s every need, and nursing homes aren’t always able to have a nurse with your loved ones the second they need them. Small delays could be excusable in extreme circumstances, but with more news coming out about nursing home abuse, you might be feeling wary.
Recently, a report from Missouri posted on Nov. 9 stated that family is now claiming that their 86-year-old mother was abused in a nursing home in St. Louis County. According to their records, a nurse called the family to tell them that the 86-year-old Alzheimer’s patient had fallen in her bedroom. However, as soon as the daughter of the woman saw the wounds, she did not believe what she was told. She claims that photos show her mother with a broken nose, cheekbones, and bruising around her eye.
She believes, according to the news, that her mother is being hit. She became suspicious because she was told her mother fell off the bed, but then another person said she fell when trying to walk from the bathroom to the bedroom. Delmar Gardens, the nursing home in question has stated that there is an ongoing investigation. The woman also filed a report with Missouri officials, according to the news, and she reported the problem to the police.
Hearing about potential abuse in a nursing home is shocking, because the nurses and healthcare providers in those medical facilities are paid to make sure your loved ones are living well in their old age. If you feel that your loved one is being abused or have found out abuse is taking place, you may want to speak with a Milwaukee personal injury attorney about your options.
