When people work in industrial settings, it’s imperative that all equipment is inspected on a reasonable basis. If it weathers with age or wear and tear, it can result in severe injury, or even wrongful death.
A 58-year-old Milwaukee worker died in just such a tragic accident recently. He was killed when his head was crushed in a press after a cable broke on the machine, according to local authorities.
The industrial accident reportedly occurred at approximately 5:20 a.m. at the ASI Technologies facility on the northwest side of Milwaukee, according to TMJ 4’s website. Milwaukee fire department employees who are members of a structural collapse unit were summoned to the workplace to move the machine off of the employee and recover his body, which was then identified by his family members. The body was subsequently removed from the plant to be prepared for funeral services and burial.
The decedent’s sister told news reporters that she was told that the machine crushed and killed her brother after a cable wire on it broke, causing the machine to crush him.
The employee had worked for the same company for approximately 30 years, and was described by one friend, who knew him since grade school, as a dedicated worker with a good heart.
In addition to fire department personnel, Milwaukee police department officers were summoned to the accident scene. Police investigators are looking into the causes of the accident and the tragic death.
