Milwaukee Nursing Home Cited for Neglecting Residents
On behalf of Milwaukee personal injury attorney Ric Domnitz of Domnitz & Domnitz, S.C. posted in Nursing Home Abuse on Thursday, July 8, 2010.
Milwaukee nursing homes are making news headlines again, not in a good way. A Milwaukee nursing home has recently been cited for nursing home abuse and neglect of residents. The Mount Carmel nursing home, located at 5700 West Layton Avenue, received a citation for neglecting residents and 34 additional citations for other failures by the nursing home for not following state and federal regulations.
Most recently, Mount Carmel was cited for neglect after West Allis police arrested a man on May 16th for peeking into the windows of homes near the nursing home after leaving the facility unattended. Initially police believed that the man was homeless and due to an outstanding warrant, police took him to Milwaukee County jail instead of returning him to the home.
After further investigation, police found that the man wondered off from the Mount Carmel grounds while nursing home staff chatted amongst each other. The staff believed that the man was in his room watching television the entire time he was out roaming the neighborhood committing crimes. Police concluded that the staff had no idea of what was going on after interviewing the staff.
These recent events aside, Mount Carmel is not a stranger to nursing home abuse claims and violations for not abiding by state and federal guidelines. In January 2010, December 2009, and November 2009, Mount Carmel received several citations for violating these guidelines. Additionally, Mount Carmel nursing home was almost shut down for repeated violations about twelve years ago.
